After merger of Rajpipla State with the Union of India in April 1948, Maharaja Vijaysinhji continued to be the titular head of the Rajpipla royal family. Upon his demise in April 1951, he was succeeded by his eldest son Rajendra Singhji. Educated in Mayo College, Ajmer, Maharaja Rajendra Singhji was a philanthropist who donated the grand Sommerville European Guest House which became a science and arts college, and another piece of land on which came up a high school, both bearing his name. He passed away in 1963, and was succeeded by his son Raghubir Singhji.
Born in 1942, Maharaja Raghubir Singhji passed his matriculation from Daly College, Indore in 1959. He graduated in Economics (Hons.) from N. Wadia College Pune in 1963, and holds Diploma in Business and Industrial Management from I.C.S. London (U.K.), and Doctorate of Law from Geneva Theological College, N. Carolina (U.S.A). He married Rukmani Devi, a Princess of Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) in 1964. The princely order was abolished by Government of India in 1971, taking away the privy purses and privileges, and leading the erstwhile princes to convert their palaces into hotels. Raghubir Singhji is Director of R.R. Hotels Ltd., and Partner in Raj Enterprises of Rajvant Palace Resort and Vijayraj Palace Hotel. He was Hon. Consul for Barbados (West Indies) in Mumbai. He is Trustee of G.S.L. Public School, R.R. Charitable Trust, Rajeshwar Mahadeo Trust, and Tatya Baba Trust. He has been published in National Geographic Magazine, (U.S.A.) Men of Achievement, and Cambridge (U.K.) Faces of India (U.K.). Other honours include rank of Colonel from Kentucky (U.S.A.), Knight Commander Bylorussia (now Belarus), Knight of Justice from (Poland), Knight Order of St. George from (U.K.), Commandeur from Paris, (France), Knight Order of St. Gereon, Koln (Germany), Member of Police Chiefs (U.S.A.), Special Executive Magistrate, (Maharashtra), Conservator of Wild Life (Government of Gujarat).
Maharani Rukmani Devi married Maharaja Raghubir Singhji in March 1964. Daughter of late Maharawal of Jaisalmer, Rukmani Devi is an M.A. in philosophy from Rajasthan University, and has done diploma from Institute of Catering (Bombay), course in journalism (ICS, Bombay), Yogic course (Yoga Institute, Santacruz, Bombay) and training in vocal Hindustani sangeet under Pandit Manikbua Thakoredas of Bhaskar Gharana. She is Director of Hotel Taj Ganges (Banares Hotel Ltd., Varanasi), and a dealer of Indian Oil Corporation in Jaisalmer. Active in cultural, social and philanthropic activities, Maharani Rukmani Devi is Convenor (Rajpipla Chapter) of INTACH, Patron member of PEN (All India Centre, Bombay), Chairperson of Shri Laxminath Charitable Trust, trustee of RR Charitable Trust, Rajeshwar Mahadev Trust and Shri Tatya Baba Trust, and founder member of Raj Swachick Sewa Sanstha, Rajpipla. She is the author of "Aashadi Badaal" a book of poems in Hindi with connotations in Gujarati and English.
